Prom SMJSH Prom is on Saturday, May 3rd @ The Armory @ 8:00pm. Prom runway will begin @ 7:15pm. Parents may arrive @ 6:45pm & students should be lined up by 7:00pm.
Senior Pictures & Senior Salutes Senior pictures and Senior Salutes must be submitted for the yearbook by Friday, May 2nd. Order forms for Senior Salutes can be picked up in the office. Pictures and orders can be sent to yearbook@usd321.com or brought to Mrs. Medley.
Prom Packets Prom Packets are in the office. EACH Junior and/or Senior planning to attend prom AND their date must turn in a signed Prom Rules and Contract. Outside date forms are included in the packet and should be turned in with the signed contracts. Outside dates must have a signature from their administrator and a copy of a photo ID, and must be approved by SMHS administration before receiving their prom ticket. FORMS DUE April 28!
Prom Flowers If you want to order Prom flowers from Fun & Fabulous Floral, please pick up a form outside the office. Orders are due April 25th & the flowers will be available for pick up on Friday, May 2nd @ 3:00pm in the office.
Kiddie Barnyard Kiddie Barnyard on Wednesday, April 30th from 8:00am-1:00pm.
Sports Physicals Day Sports Physicals day on Saturday, May 3rd from 8:00am-12:00pm @ Cotton O'Neil Kanza Park, 2660 SW 3rd St., Topeka. $20 fee, but $10 of the fee gets donated back to the school. Sponsored by Stormont Vail Orthopedics & Sports Medicine.
Native American Grant Notice of Meeting - On Wednesday, April 30th at 4:00 pm, a public hearing will be held at Special Services in Rossville to discuss and review the proposed Indian Education Grant. Members of the Indian Education Grant Parent Committee will be available to answer questions. We welcome anyone interested to attend and give input.

HS Volleyball All high school girls interested in playing summer league volleyball- Each player must be registered, have their paperwork filled out, and fees paid before they are allowed to participate. Registration must be completed by May 1st. Registration forms can be found in the office to pick up. Please return to the office or Ms. Michaelis. The registration fee will be $55.00 per player. Please write checks out to SMHS Volleyball, send cash, or Venmo (@Janelle-Noel-6). The fee will cover officials, an end-of-season tournament, gym insurance, and rental.

After Prom 2026 Golf Tournament Mark Your Calendars: After Prom 2026 Golf Tournament – May 31, 2025! We're getting a head start on planning the After Prom 2026, and we'd love your support to help make this event a huge success! Washburn Tech Summer Camp Washburn Tech Summer Camp registration is finally open! For those parents/guardians who are registering for the camp please make sure they fill out the Parent/guardian contract form which is located on the Summer Camp page as well. This is an opportunity for incoming 7th and 8th graders and incoming freshmen and sophomores. Washburn University Summer Camps Art Washburn's Mulvane Art Museum Art Lab will be hosting a Kids' Summer Art Camp for 7–13 year olds July 15 – 18 featuring a guest artist and plenty of fun art-making activities! This four-day camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day with snacks provided. Registration is $100. A variety of camps are offered for students in elementary, middle and high school. Camps are available for both individuals and entire teams. The cost and schedule vary for each camp. Students in grades 7 and 8 will attend the camp June 9 -12 and students in grades 9 and 10 will attend June 16 -18, 20. What better place to explore careers in construction, health care, human services, technology and transportation than at Washburn Tech! In the same environment as the students in their certificate programs, your child will receive hands-on instruction in a variety of areas. Music Washburn University's Music & Theatre Department offers summer opportunities for students to practice and perform. The jazz camp will focus on improvisation, small group performance, jazz theory and many other related skills associated with the Jazz idiom. This camp is open to middle school and high school students (grades 7 – 12). Visit www.washburn.edu/music for more information. Double Reed Day Camp Dr. Emily Foltz and Dr. Austin Way, Washburn University faculty members, will guide students 1 – 4 p.m. July 12 Room 220 of the Garvey Fine Arts Center on the Washburn Campus on the oboe and/or bassoon and learn basic technique. Students may consider checking out an instrument from their school to bring to the event. There will also be instruments available on site. Reeds will be provided. There are no fees for this event, but registration is required (due by July 1). For questions, contact Dr. Foltz at emily.foltz@washburn.edu. Washburn University Total Percussion Camp The 20th Annual Washburn University Total Percussion Camp is July 15 – 19, 2025. The WUTPC is unlike any other camp in the area, providing students with concerts and clinics in multiple areas of percussion. Students will engage in hands on instruction covering marching percussion, drumset, concert percussion, samba band and more. They will experience professional concerts (open to the public) in the evenings. On the final day students will perform a concert featuring the WUTPC student drumlines, percussion ensembles, and Mass Percussion Ensemble (all students, and camp instructors). Washburn Summer Keyboard Academy Join the fine Washburn University faculty and guest artists for Washburn Summer Keyboard Academy (WSKA) July 28 – Aug. 1, 2025! Washburn Summer Keyboard Academy is a camp that focuses on the study and performance of piano and organ. Students entering grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and college are eligible to participate. Eligible students must have taken at least two years of consecutive private lessons and must be able to read music. Along with daily lessons, students participate in keyboard workshops, recreational activities, music history/literature classes, performance classes and designated practice time. They have opportunities to listen to artist-level performances, and they will perform a student gala concert in White Concert Hall!
Big Sun Scholarship The Big Sun Scholarship will award a $500 scholarship to a senior who participated in athletics. Apply at: http://www.bigsunathletics.com. The deadline is June 19th.
O'Brate Foundation Traditional College Scholarship Application The O'Brate Foundation Traditional College Scholarship Application for the 2025-2026 academic year is NOW OPEN at https://obrate.smapply.org/. The deadline for completing the application is May 1, 2025. We STRONGLY recommend EARLY SUBMISSIONS. AWARDS The scholarship awards are based on financial need and will vary in size from $500 to $5,000 annually. This year we will be awarding approximately 50 to 55 Renewable scholarships, so we would appreciate your help by encouraging only students who meet the financial qualifications to apply for this need-based scholarship.
Footsteps to Your Future Fall Scholarship Due July 4 We're excited to announce our $1,000 Footsteps to Your Future Fall Scholarship for students studying during the Fall 2025 . All applications must be submitted through the online form included in the application, here: Eligibility Requirements: To participate in the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria: Be a US citizen or Permanent Legal Resident of the United States Be an undergraduate freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior entering the Fall 2025 semester Have a minimum 3.0 GPA Pursuing a degree (open to all majors) Be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university for the Fall 2025 semester Submit a 300–400 word essay answering the following question: " Success is built step by step, and every experience shapes the path ahead. Describe how your education, extracurricular activities, work experience, volunteer efforts, and personal initiatives are helping you take confident strides toward your future career and aspirations." Kansas Education Opportunity Scholarship Due 5/1/25 We are excited to announce that the Kansas Education Opportunity Scholarship application for the 2025-2026 year is open and we already have quite a few students applying. The Kansas Education Opportunity Scholarship is intended to assist first-generation college students and/or dependents of teachers and paraprofessionals in Kansas with their first undergraduate degree. This scholarship is both need-based and merit-based; recipients are selected based on academic proficiency and financial need as determined by federal methodology. Priority in awarding is given to graduating high school seniors entering their first year of college. Additional information about this scholarship can be found on our website and you can access a PDF copy of the brochure from our website at: Ed Opp 25-26.pub If you haven't already, you will soon see an influx of students asking you to complete the Kansas Education Opportunity Scholarship High School Verification Form. The form is completed through the Kansas Board of Regents website at https://submission.kansasregents.gov/. The Kansas Education Opportunity Scholarship is intended to assist first-generation college students and/or dependents of teachers and paraprofessionals in Kansas with their first undergraduate degree. The application for 2025-26 school year will open on February 1, 2025. Deadline: May 1 The Kansas Hero's Scholarship Act (KSA 75-4364) establishes a waiver which provides an opportunity for eligible dependents and spouses of certain deceased/disabled public safety officers and military personnel to attend an eligible public Kansas postsecondary educational institution without payment of tuition and required fees. Please watch this space in April 2025 for information about the 2025-26 application. The Kansas Military Service Scholarship is available for the payment of tuition and fees at a public Kansas institution for students who are a resident of Kansas and has: served in military service in international waters or on foreign soil in support of military operations for which the person received hostile fire pay for at least 90 days after September 11, 2001, or served less than such 90 days because of injuries during such military service; has received an honorable discharge or under honorable conditions (general) discharge from military service or is still in military service; and has provided copies of military discharge papers (DD-214 form) or active duty orders whichever such paper or order indicate the location of such person's deployment and indicate the person has served after September 11, 2001, in any military operation for which the person received hostile fire pay. Priority Date: May 1. The Kansas National Guard Educational Assistance provides a percentage of tuition and fees paid; up to a maximum rate not to exceed the maximum rate that would be charged by the state educational institutions for enrollment. The percentage is determined by the number of eligible students and available appropriations. Deadlines: Spring 2025 semester - January 31, 2025; Fall 2025 semester - August 31, 2025; Spring 2026 semester - January 31, 2026 The Kansas Nursing Service Scholarship requires an obligation to practice as an LPN or RN in Kansas. If the student wishes, they can have a sponsor and receive more funding. An eligible sponsor means any adult care home, psychiatric hospital, medical care facility, home health agency, local health department or any state agency, which employs LPNs or RNs, licensed by the State of Kansas.
